Abstract The automated access to information on technical systems is a key requirement for software applications of many domains in an industrial facility. After all, existing domain-specific solutions still lack a common basic concept for the description of technical systems and communication on them, though they are all addressing the same issue. In this talk, a concept for modeling information on technical systems is presented and the architecture of a software implementation is outlined. By applying the software in an industrial facility data can be accessed uniformly, which greatly reduces the efforts for the integration of new software functionality. As a result, applications such as model-predictive control, soft-sensoring, plausibility checks or assistance systems that involve generic methods and models are enabled to focus on their core tasks instead on technical issues of their integration.
